This position is within our Central Therapy Department.

Clear and effective communication is at the heart of this role. You’re skilled at explaining complex exercises in simple terms, ensuring patients understand the treatment, its benefits, and how it supports their recovery. Your ability to give clear instructions, offer constructive feedback, and actively listen to patients fosters trust and encourages their full engagement in the care plan, keeping them on track to meet their recovery goals.

You are anticipative, able to recognize patient needs and support the therapeutic process before they arise. With a strong knowledge of exercise techniques, modalities, walking aids, and hospital equipment, you help to ensure that patients have the tools and guidance they need for effective participation in their therapy. Your supportive nature contributes to a seamless care experience, enhancing the outcomes of treatments led by the occupational therapist or physiotherapist.

In this role you will:

  • Provide advanced level support in assisting Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists in the provision of individual and group rehabilitative programs for patients
  • Implement therapeutic interventions including exercise programs, functional mobility training, and activities of daily living (ADL) practice under the direction of OTs or PTs
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to address patients' goals, participate in care conferences, and contribute to discharge planning processes
  • Provide timely collaborative feedback regarding patient progression or regression to ensure appropriate therapeutic adjustments
  • Document patient progress accurately and comprehensively in electronic health records, including objective measurements, functional outcomes, and response to interventions
  • Prepare, maintain, and properly utilize therapeutic equipment, ensuring safety standards and infection control protocols are consistently followed
  • Provide education and instruction to patients and their families on therapeutic exercises, equipment use, and adaptive techniques for activities of daily living
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, contributing relevant observations and information to support comprehensive patient care planning
  • Perform other duties consistent with the job classification as required 


Job Requirements:
Mandatory

  • Completion of an accredited OTA/PTA College program Community College Program as a combined Occupational Therapy Assistant/Physiotherapy Assistant, with either:
    • A 1-year Certificate or Diploma, plus at least one year of working experience as a combined OTA/PTA
    • A 2-year Certificate or Diploma


Skills and Knowledge

  • Demonstrates a good understanding of the principles of rehabilitation
  • Ability to cope with the physical demands of the position
  • Demonstrated proficiency in communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated satisfactory job performance and attendance history 
 

Salary: Minimum - $28.422/hour; Maximum - $33.307/hour
