Job Outline:

Reporting to the Manager of Payroll, the Payroll Analyst is responsible for the complete, accurate, timely and confidential preparation and processing of payroll and related financial reporting at Sinai Health, Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital Campus.

Responsibilities:
  • Payroll Systems Management: Manage payroll systems, software, and technology platforms to support payroll processing and reporting. Evaluate and implement enhancements to payroll systems to improve efficiency, accuracy, and data integrity
  • Responsible for implementing and testing system updates and configuration as required based on internal business requirements, Year End notes and legislative updates
  • Responsible for developing and executing all Payroll &HRIS reporting, exemption and audits reports, employee master data & payroll data integrity discrepancies
  • Audits and Reporting: Coordinate internal and external audits of payroll processes and records. Prepare and submit payroll-related reports, filings, and reconciliations as required by regulatory agencies, management, finance, and stakeholders
  • Lead year-end payroll activities such as balancing gross earnings, taxable benefits, statutory remittances, EHT, WSIB and HOOPP reconciliation (MDC) to provide accurate Pension Adjustment amounts.
  • Lead complete cycle year-end activities, support team members by running reports for reconciling and completing T4s and ensuring they are distributed accurately and on time.
  • Controlling and monitoring the timelines for the year-end payroll updates for employee records and T4/T4A production, as well as scheduling and initiating auditing, balancing, loading, and printing of T4/T4As
  • Interpreting relevant provincial and federal legislation, collective agreements, and corporate policies and procedures that influence the administration of the payroll function, such as retros.
  • Review and update Standard Operating Procedures and related workflows to outline opportunities for improvement.
  • Provide training and communication of Payroll policies and procedures
  • Provide payroll metrics and trends through various payroll reports
  • Acts as payroll backup, supporting various payroll functions when needed such as processing bi-weekly payroll
  • Assist the Payroll Manager with various tasks.
Education & Qualifications:
  • College Diploma in Business Administration
  • Canadian Payroll Association Certification – PCP designation is a requirement.
  • 2-4 years specializing in payroll processing with experience in a unionized environment
  • Applicants with proven equivalent recent and related training and experience may be considered. 
  • Working knowledge of the Employment Standards Act, Canada Pension Plan, Canada Revenue Agency regulations, Employment Insurance, Employer Health Tax, WSIB regulations, and
  • Familiarity Meditech and Dayforce is an asset. 
  • Excellent computer skills (e.g. MS Office Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, etc.) Advanced Excel skills, including nested IF statements, Pivot tables and macros (experience manipulating and summarizing data)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex payroll issues, such as taxable benefits and withholding taxes on settlements, depending on the targeted audience, in both written and verbal formats. A high degree of sensitivity and confidentiality is required even under pressure.
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical, mathematical, statistical and problem-solving skills
  • Well-developed logical, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to collect, organize, analyze and disseminate significant amounts of information
  • Exceptional organizational time management skills are necessary to prioritize and manage a high volume of activities and changing priorities while maintaining high accuracy in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment.
